In memory of
Mary Louise Jones-Batiste
I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the LORD, the righteous judge shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all of them also that love HIS appearing. II Timothy 4:7-8 Mary Louise Jones-Batiste entered into life on May 5, 1945 to the late Mary Johnson Jones. On Thursday, November 22, 2018 she exchanged her cross for her crown at her home at approximately 6:55 p.m. Mary Louise was baptized at Greater Mt. Pilgrim B. C. by the late Rev. A. C. Moore. She later served in the Jr. Choir, the Willing Workers, and the Pastor's Support Club. She was a faithful member until her health declined. She was also joined in holy matrimony to Jimmy Batiste. Mary was a Lowery High School graduate. She also graduated from the Job Corps of Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was employed by the Department of Transportation and Development as an Operations Manager at the Sunshine Bridge. She retired in the year of 2003. Mary Louise leaves to cherish her memories (7) sisters, Victoria Landry of Gonzales, Janice Bernard (Lloyd), Elizabeth "Liz" Jones, and Margaret (Lawrence) Smith, all of Donaldsonville, Aleshia Davis of Detroit, Michigan, Minister Patricia Gipson of Baton Rouge, and Brenda Kennix Rome, of Donaldsonville. Several children of whom she had reared as her own, Darlene Landry, Deidre M. Jones-Kenny of Texas, Crystal Jones, Byron Jones, Byron Freeman, Tyron Jones, Terrance Hilton, Jr., Landon Jones, and two special "adopted" sons Vaughn Julien and Rev. Carl Barnes and an "adopted" daughter Tressa Dunbar. Also left with fond memories of her are her Godchildren Gregory Walker, Wendy Johnson August, Nadine Stevenson Jacobs, and Darlene Landry. Also, three very special friends and confidants Willie Taylor, Albert Shields, and Hester Gomez. She also leaves to mourn a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends all of whom were so special to her, she loved them all with the same level of love. Mary was preceded in death by her mother Mary Jones, three brothers Lionel, James "Crow" Willis, and John "Pip" Jones, aunts Juanita and Leola Motton, uncle George "Tobe" Hardy, and three nieces Charlene Gibbs, Chineka Smith and Constance Carcisse. Visiting 9 a.m. on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at Greater Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church, 926 St. Patrick St., Donaldsonville until religious services at 11 a.m., conducted by Rev. Timothy Campbell, Pastor. Interment in the Protestant Cemetery.
