Richard Nicholas Schettino, 77 Former chief engineer who traveled the world Richard Nicholas Schettino, 77, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2018, after a hard-fought battle with respiratory diseases. Richard was surrounded by the love of his family and friends. Richard was born on Feb. 21, 1941, in Brooklyn, N.Y. The son of Frank and Grace, he attended the University of New Hampshire, where he was a standout athlete, playing both football and lacrosse. He received a bachelor of science in civil engineering from the university. He was the chief engineer for Fiske Brothers Refining Company, Newark, N.J., for many years. Richard is survived by his wife, Cynthia; daughters, Marlo Larsen (Karl) and Samantha Linsky (Scott); stepsons, Carl (Dina) and Nicholas Pattelli; sisters, Patricia Oppedisano (Albert) and Domenick Lancia (Alison). Richard was blessed to have many grandchildren, Noah, Jacob, Karl, Drew, Joshua, Carl, Jonah, Gabriella, Nicholas, Michael, Kristian, Niklas, and Jessica. Richard traveled the world, enjoyed fine dining, games of chance, and watching college football with his grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Grace; his first wife, Dola, and his brother, Louis. "He touched the lives of ever one he met and he did it his way." Services will be held at Scarpaci Funeral Home on Sunday, Nov. 4, from 4 to 9 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, Nov. 5, at Our Lady Star of the Sea, 5411 Amboy Rd., at 11:15 a.m. Scarpaci Funeral Home 6389 Amboy Rod.
