GALE VALERIE CRYSTAL GALE 8/17/1951 ~ 8/10/2017 The youngest of four children born to Eva Patterson Gale and the late Jack Gale in Lancaster, SC. Valerie was educated in the DC school system and a proud graduate of Eastern High School, there showing her school spirit by participating in the band and cheerleading team. After graduation, she attended Federal City College and later the University of the District of Columbia. She graduated with honors from AIB. Her marriage to her high school sweetheart ended in divorce. Valerie was employed as supervisor of Teller Services and later in Human Resources at Metro as Benefits Coordinator. Her proficiency in Spanish and American Sign Language assisted many patrons there. She retired from WMATA after 25 years of service. Valerie grew up attending Community United Methodist Church, where she proudly participated with the School of Ushering, sang and served as choir director with the Chapelrelles and delegate to the Baltimore Washington Conference for the United Methodist Church. Upon invitation from a cousin, Rev. AnThony Pelham, she joined Allen Chapel AME Church and their Junior-Senior Ministry. Considering herself a true Washingtonian, Valerie embraced the abundance of the arts and culture DC provides. She instilled this love in the joy of her life, her only daughter, Akeva, and loved watching her perform. She was also a dieheart Washington Redskins fan. Often volunteering her services and assistance to many organizations, she served on the Roundtree Residents Board of Directors as Communications Chair and secretary to RRTA. Valerie was outgoing, genuine, caring and known as being no nonsense and opinionated. It was no secret that her family was top priority and she enjoyed being a source of encouragement and support. She provided valuable information from research and study, being the family historian, and always kept in close touch with relatives and friends. Cherishing Valerie's memories are her loving daughter and son-in-law, Akeva and Barrington Clarke, Jr.; two grandchildren, Barrington, III and Ailee; dear mother, Eva Patterson Gale; sister, Jacqueline Thompson; her caregiver, Rodawg, her best friend; her loving brother and sister-in-law, David and Shirley Miller; nieces, Crystal Patterson, Tanya McGriff and Tina Miller; number #1 nephew, Anthony (Amy) Suber, nephews, Charles Barrett and Tyson Miller; her devoted friends, Deborah Simmons, Geraldine Williams, Patti Jones, Frances Green and Beverly Rose; numerous cousins, with whom she had a unique and undeniable bond.Cherishing Valerie's memories are her loving daughter and son-in-law, Akeva and Barrington Clarke, Jr.; two grandchildren, Barrington, III and Ailee; dear mother, Eva Patterson Gale; sister, Jacqueline Thompson; her caregiver, Rodawg, her best friend; her loving brother and sister-in-law, David and Shirley Miller; nieces, Crystal Patterson, Tanya McGriff and Tina Miller; number #1 nephew, Anthony (Amy) Suber, nephews, Charles Barrett and Tyson Miller; her devoted friends, Deborah Simmons, Geraldine Williams, Patti Jones, Frances Green and Beverly Rose; numerous cousins, with whom she had a unique and undeniable bond.
