Laurence O. "Larry" Higgins Sr.
Laurence "Larry" O. Higgins Sr., 86 NASHUA, N.H. - Laurence "Larry" O. Higgins Sr., 86, passed away Monday, Aug. 6, 2018 at St. Joseph's Hospital, Nashua surrounded by his family. He was born in Portland, Maine, on Dec. 30, 1931, the son of the late Leo L. and Bessie (Oliver) Higgins. Larry graduated from South Portland High School, Maine, class of 1949 and the University of Tulsa in Oklahoma. He was a U.S. Navy veteran having served during the Korean Conflict. Retiring as the Assistant Division Chief for N.E. Region Air Traffic Control facilities, Larry received numerous awards throughout his career with the Federal Aviation Administration. After retirement, he served as a consultant for aerospace industries including, Hughes Aircraft, Lockheed Martin, General Electric and was the Contract Director of SRSA at the ARTCC in Nashua. Larry served as past vice president of the American Cancer Society. In 1981, he served as coordinator for the Greater Nashua Air Show to benefit the American Cancer Society. He was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church and St. Patrick's Church, both of Nashua. He enjoyed listening to country music, and anything to do with Maine which he referred to as "God's Country". In addition, Larry loved spending time with his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Karen J. (Mayer) Higgins of Nashua, his son, Laurence O. Higgins Jr. of Manchester, N.H.; four daughters, Kathleen Poirier and her husband, Daniel, of Nashua, Kelly Bergeon and her husband, Charles, of Litchfield, N.H., Theresa Higgins of Nashua, Kristin Flynn and her husband, Sean, of Litchfield, 13 grandchildren and one great-grandson, with another due shortly. He was predeceased by his daughter, Debra Higgins, in 1960. Calling hours will be held on Friday Aug. 10, 2018 from 6-8 p.m., at the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Road, Londonderry, N.H. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, 216 E. Dunstable Rd., Nashua.
