Oswald A. "Ozzie" Walkenhorst
Oswald A. "Ozzie" Walkenhorst, 88, New Haven, passed away Saturday, July 28, 2018, at New Haven Care Center. Ozzie, son of the late Julius Walkenhorst and wife Amanda, nee Ahlemeier, was born Dec. 10, 1929, in New Haven. He was united in marriage to Delores A. Scheer Aug. 26, 1951, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, New Haven. Delores preceded him in death May 30, 2013. Ozzie worked at Washington Tractor Co. as a mechanic for over 30 years. He also farmed his whole life and worked as a mechanic for awhile at Maczuk Equipment in New Haven. Ozzie proudly served his country in the U.S. Marines during the Korean War. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, where he served as church elder, trustee, was in the choir and a member of the Men's Club. He also was a member of the New Haven American Legion and the New Haven Fire Department. He was on the New Haven Ambulance Board and served as secretary of the Franklin County ENS Numbering Board. He enjoyed serving on the New Haven Fire Department and New Haven American Legion. He also enjoyed camping, traveling, tinkering in his shop and hunting, but he especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and visiting with family and friends. Ozzie is survived by a son, Gene Walkenhorst and wife Terry, Jefferson City, a daughter, Wanda Walkenhorst, New Haven, a son, Gary Walkenhorst and wife Dawn, New Haven, and a daughter, Nancy Shockley and husband David, New Haven; his grandchildren, Tyler Walkenhorst and wife Meagan, Bethany Marble and husband Tyler, Matthew Walkenhorst, and Megan and Justin Shockley; and two greatgrandchildren, Isabelle and Gabriel Marble. He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; two sisters, Emma Walkenhorst and Mathilda Ohse; and two brothers, Reinhard Walkenhorst and his twin brother, Oscar Walkenhorst. Visitation was held Thursday, Aug. 2, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Toedtmann-Grosse Funeral Home, New Haven. Funeral services were held Friday, Aug. 3, at 11 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, New Haven, with the Rev. Mark Goucher officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. The family requests donations be given to Bethlehem Lutheran Church or New Haven Care Center, in care of Toedtmann-Grosse Funeral Home. Arrangements were in care of Toedtmann-Grosse Funeral Home, New Haven.
