Wayne E. Robinson
WAYNE E. ROBINSON 1925 - 2018 AUGUSTA - Wayne E. Robinson, 93, of Augusta, was peacefully called home on July 26, 2018. He was born on April 7, 1925, in West Glover, Vt. to Charles and Rojean (LeClair) Robinson. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on Sept. 28, 1943. He served on the U.S.S. Gordius from Sept. 1950 to May 1952. He then volunteered for Tar Billet at the Naval Reserve Center in Augusta, where he remained until he was honorably discharged in August 1967. Not being fond of retirement, he returned to the Naval Reserve Center on Jan. 1,1974, where he served as clerk typist until Oct. 1983. Wayne also served as Chaplain for American Legion Post #2 for 30 years. He was a communicant of St. Augustine's Church. He was a very quiet man, but when he spoke people listened. He had an unexpected quick sense of humor that would catch people off-guard. He was a Jack of all trades, with a tendency toward hoarding tools and gadgets "just in case." Whenever his boys or grandsons needed some odd tool, part, or device, they knew Dad would quickly produce it from his garage or cellar. He was beloved by all his family and respected in the community. He will be missed by all that knew him. Wayne was predeceased by his parents; his in-laws, Joseph and Lauretta Messier; his brothers, Llewelyn, Graydon, and Glendon; his brothers-in-law, Paul Valley, Guy Gravel, Merrill Johnson, and Robert Messier; his sisters, Elizabeth Valley and Charlotte Gravel; his sisters-in-law, Effie Robinson, Genevieve Johnson, and Norma Messier; along with his daughter in-law, Cynthia (Hall) Robinson. He is survived by the love of his life and wife of nearly 71 years, Lynn Robinson; and their six children, Kevin Robinson of Augusta, Kandis and husband Robert Johnson of So. Gardiner, Pamela and husband Scott Wheeler of Fairfield, Penny Sargent of Augusta, Kurt and wife Celine Robinson of Lewiston, and Paul and wife Ulanda Robinson of Chelsea. Wayne also leaves 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Virginia Robinson; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family would like to thank Togus VA and Dr. Brad Shimmermin. Also thank you to Mid-Maine Cremation Services for all their guidance and support. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 9 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Augusta. A graveside committal service with military honors will be held at 2 p.m. on the same day at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery on the Mt. Vernon Road in Augusta.
