Edinburg - Maria E. Elizondo, 89, passed away on Sunday, June 26, 2016 at Amara Hospice in Edinburg. She was born on Friday, June 10, 1927 to Regino Estrada and Josefa Garza Estrada. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband; Bernardo Elizondo, Jr. , son, Bernardo (Gloria) Elizondo, III, 4 sister and 1 brother. Maria is survived by her daughter, Margaret "Margie" (Ruben) Gutierrez, twin sister; Margarita Borrego, brother; Sacarias Barreiro, grandchildren; Louie (Elizabeth) Gutierrez, Bernardo (Veronica) Elizondo, IV, Raul Carlos (Cristina) Elizondo and Vanessa Nicole (Heriberto) Elizondo - Salinas, 6 Great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. Maria loved her children and attending to her plants. She worked at El Tule Day Care for 8 years in the 80s. She was also a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and lived in Edinburg most of her life. She will be greatly be missed by her family, friends and all those whose lives she touched. On behalf of Maria's family, we would like to say "Thank You" to the staff of Amara Hospice and her provider Maria Hernandez for all their compassionate care they provided. Her family will receive friends today, Tuesday, June 28, 2016 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a Holy Rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home, 322 East Kuhn Street in Edinburg. Catholic Mass will be held Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 501 East Kuhn Street in Edinburg. Catholic burial will follow to Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in McAllen. Having the distinguished honor to serve as pallbearers will be Ruben Gutierrez, Louie Gutierrez, Ben Elizondo, IV, Ernesto Rodriguez, Alex Rodriguez, Johnny Rodriguez, Jr., Ruben Estrada, Rene Estrada, Rene Borrego and Pete Borrego, Jr. Funeral services have been entrusted to Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
