Kenneth Neal Parr
88, of Deer Park, Texas returned to his heavenly home on May 1 st , 2015 after a valiant battle with a prolonged heart condition. His devotion to his family and his belief in God supported him in his struggle and offered him a sense of peace. Kenneth was born to Olga and Arthur Parr on July 27, 1926 in Galveston. His early years were spent in League City, living at Galveston County Park where his father served as caretaker. He graduated from League City High School in 1943 and joined the Marine Corp at the age of 16. His service to our country led him to two Purple Hearts following 4 beachfront landings, including Iwo Jima, during the Pacific campaign of World War II. Upon returning to civilian life, Kenny signed a contract to play minor league baseball for the Chicago Cubs. After sustaining a knee injury during spring training, he followed his heart back to Galveston and met the love of his life Marian Weber. Kenny worked for Rohm and Haas Chemical Company for 30 years to support his growing family. He also grew in his faith and was ordained as a Catholic Deacon.This faith served him well on missionary trips to Mexico and Romania. His most recent church membership was at Faithbridge Church is Pasadena. Kenny enjoyed an active lifestyle throughout the years including a love for hunting, fishing, bowling, and playing with the grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marian Parr, his children Kenneth Parr, Jr., Keith Parr, Monica Drake, and Kirk Parr; his 4 grandchildren; his 4 great grandchildren; and one brother, Ralph Parr of Clear Lake City. He is predeceased by parents, three sisters and three brothers. Family visitation will be held Wednesday, May 6 th from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Grand View Funeral Home at 8501 Spencer Hwy in Pasadena. The funeral will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, May 7 th with a graveside service to follow.
