Robert L. Donahue
Robert L. Donahue, 97, of Solvay passed away Wed. January 1 at his home with his two daughters, Barbara and Didi at his side. He retired from the U.S. Soil Conservation Service in Syracuse in 1976 where he was State Administrative Officer. He had been a federal employee since 1934 and served in the Army in WWII in the Southern and Western Pacific. He was an elder, trustee, and former deacon of South Presbyterian Church, a member of the Syracuse Kiwanis Club, Salt Springs Lodge #520 F&AM, the Syracuse Scottish Rite bodies of Masonry, Tigris Temple, A.A.O.N.M.S., and the American Legion. He had served as director and president of the U.S. (Onondaga County) Employees Federal Credit Union for a number of years. Mr. Donahue was a volunteer for many years at Community General Hospital and was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary and its Board of Directors. He was treasurer of the Auxiliary from 1978 to 1992. He was predeceased by his wife Denise. Robert is survived by his daughters, Barbara Kriesel of Syracuse and Didi (Richard) Acosta of Albuquerque, NM; his grandchildren, Darin Holmes, Kirsten Holmes, Eric (Laura) Holmes, Rebecca (Paul) Smartschan, Joseph Acosta, and Matt Acosta; 11 great-grandchildren; extended family, and friends. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2014, at Robinson Memorial Presbyterian Church, 126 Terry Rd., Syracuse. Contributions may be made to Hospice of CNY, 990 Seventh North St., Liverpool, NY 13088. Their care, understanding, concern and compassion for Bob and his family were exquisite gifts that his daughters will always treasure. Date of Death: January 1, 2014
