Ronald A. Berg
The Lord called Ron home on April 20, 2011 at the age of 64. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald A. and Helen V. (Carlson) Berg. Ronald Arden Berg was born on March 22, 1947 in Minneapolis. After graduating from Patrick Henry High School in 1965, he received a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from Augsburg College in 1969, followed by a Masters' Degree from the University of Minnesota in 1987. Ron began his school teaching career as a choir and band director in Glenwood City, WI in 1969, and served in the US Army from 1971-1973 with the 399th Army Band in Fort Leonard Wood, MO, followed by duty with the 32nd Army Air Defense Command Band in Kaiserslautern, Germany. On January 1, 1977, Ron wed Carole Anderson of Karlstad, MN, at First Covenant Church in Minneapolis. Three children were born to this marriage. Ron enjoyed a 38 year career as a band director and school administrator in Glenwood City, Clayton, Barron and Somerset, Wisconsin. Raised by his family to use his music talents for the Lord, Ron served throughout his life as a choir director and keyboardist for worship at Redeemer Covenant (Brooklyn Park, MN), First Covenant (Mpls, MN), Reeve Ev. Free Church (Reeve WI), and Maranatha Ev. Free Church (Rice Lake, WI) as career change locations gave opportunity. At the time of his passing, he was the Director of Instrumental Ensembles at the North Heights Lutheran Church in Arden Hills, MN. He is survived by his daughter, Kirsten (Michael) Poggen-klass of Cedar Rapids, IA, son Bjorn (Stephanie) Berg of Oak Park, IL, son Reid Berg of St. Paul, three grandchildren, one brother, David (Linda) Berg of Minneapolis, sisters Bonnie (Cliff) Eng of Cokato and Lori Larson of Burnsville, former spouse Carole (Anderson Berg) Kapus (Jerry) of Eau Claire, WI and very significant friend, Sheryl Carlson of Forest Lake, MN. Memorial service Saturday, 4/30/11 at 11:00 a.m. at North Heights Lutheran Church, 1700 W. Hwy 96, Arden Hills, MN (Entrance A). Visitation Friday, 4/29/11 5-8 p.m. and one hour prior to service at church (Entrance B). Interment Crystal Lake Cemetery, Washburn-McReavy, Crystal Lake Chapel. Memorials are preferred to the North Heights Lutheran Church Instrumental Music Fund.
