GUY W. MURPHY Jr.
Guy W. Murphy, Jr., age 89, of Daytona Beach, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 9, 2010. Guy was born in Long Island, New York. Visitation will be Monday June 21, 2010 at 5 – 8 p.m. with honors from his Elks Brothers at 6:00, VFW, M.O. C. and family service will follow at 6:30 PM. His Funeral Christian Service will be June 22, 2010; 11:00 AM at the Daytona Chapel of the Lohman Funeral Home, followed by an interment and military honors at Daytona Memorial Park. He is survived by his soul mate and the love of his life his wife of 57 years, Chris Murphy. Other survivors include his daughter, Margie Murphy Shaddix; two grandchildren, Mandy Burfield and Melissa Shaddix; one great-grand-child, Caroline Burfield; and a sister, Luvia Fisher. He is preceded in death by his father Guy W. Murphy, and mother, Edith Gillette Murphy, and a sister, Florence Figerle. Guy's family moved to Florida in 1967 from Plymouth, Mass. He was Past Commander of VFW Post 1590 of Daytona Beach, All-American M.O.C., Post Commander Grand of Florida Military Order of the Cooties and Past 5th Supreme Commander for two years M.O.C. 5th district. He belonged to the Elks Club of Port Orange, DAV #84 and the Eagles of South Daytona. VFW National Home Life Member, Kentucky Colonel. Guy was employed by General Electric for 20 years as an Electrical Engineer and then Coca-Cola Bottling Company as Sales and Service Manager. When he retired he stayed active working for Daytona International Speedway as an Armed Service Guard. While in the Navy, Guy served as Gun Captain on the ship "Mighty Midget" and was awarded the Presidential Citation. Even after the many medical challenges he overcame, he greeted each day with a happy smile. He loved being with his family and friends and enjoyed fishing and racing. He was a joy to know and will never be forgotten for his courage. He shall be greatly missed by his family and friends. Good-bye Guy, until we meet again…We Love You.
