JEAN BARNESJean Hesket Barnes-Wood born June 12, 1927 in Wellington, KS, passed away April 25, 2010 after a 7-month battle with heart failure. She married James "Jim" Barnes in 1945. They were transferred to Oklahoma City with Santa Fe Railroad in the late 40's. Jim preceded her in death in 1978 after a battle with lung cancer. She joined First Christian Church in 1954, where she sang in the choir, as well as being active in CWF. She is listed as a Phoebe from FCC. It was from this involvement with her church and with the State Office of Disciples Jean started the JEAN BARNES CHRISTIAN BOOKSTORE Nov. 12, 1960. Jean traveled across the US setting up book tables for numerous churches and psychological conferences. In 1988 Jean married Duane Wood, who joined her at the store. She and Duane and David Wood began the Publishing part of the business in 1994. In 1999 she and Duane retired. Jean witnessed her Christian faith when she opened the bookstore. Many ministers remember her as having helped them get through seminary. Jean is survived by husband, Duane Wood, of the home; loving stepchildren and grandkids, nieces, nephews and many friends. The family thanks City Hospice and Dr. Nathan Valentine. Memorial services will be at First Christian Church of Oklahoma City, 3700 N. Walker Ave., Thursday, April 29, 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jesus House or to City Hospice.
