In memory of
Kathleen McKenzie
Kathleen McKenzie Kathleen McKenzie of San Francisco lost her struggle with metastatic breast cancer on September 18. She died at UCSF Medical Center on Parnassus, in the loving care of her family. Kathleen was born in San Francisco in 1936. She grew up on Bernal Heights, in a house with a pond and farms as neighbors. In the last years of her life she lived in the Parkside, and was devoted to her family, especially her grandchildren - the fifth generation of her family to be born in San Francisco - as well as to her beloved Scottish Deerhounds. Kathleen is survived by her daughter, Christie Keith, a columnist for SFGate.com; her son and daughter-in-law James and Julie Keith and their sons Conrad and Harrison; her son and daughter-in-law McKenzie and Meewon Keith and their son Ronan; and her brother, Henry L. McKenzie, all of San Francisco, as well as dozens of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins all over the city and the greater Bay Area. A rosary will be held at Duggan's Mortuary in Daly City on Thursday, Sept. 24 at 7 PM. A funeral mass will be held at St. Agnes Church at 1025 Masonic between Oak and Page in San Francisco, where Kathleen was baptized, on Friday, Sept. 24, at 11 AM, followed by a celebration of her life at the chapel at Holy Cross Cemetery at 1500 Mission Rd. in Colma, at 12:30 PM, and a reception at 1888 Geneva Avenue, next to the Cow Palace, immediately afterward. Additional information and directions can be found at http://caberfeidh.com/mckenzie.html. Kathleen's only surviving sibling, Henry, is a longtime volunteer at San Francisco Suicide Prevention, and donations in her memory to that organization would be appreciated by the family, in gratitude for his love, strength and support during Kathleen's long illness. Animal lovers who want to honor her life are invited to donate to Muttville, a San Francisco charity that finds homes for elderly dogs and those with medical problems.
