She was born January 25, 1921, in Council Bluffs, Iowa the oldest child of John and Mildred Sadler. There she graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1939, and met her future husband Robert E. Carter, Sr. They were married on November 6, 1942 in New York, N.Y. while Bob was serving in the United States Coast Guard. After Bob's enlistment was fulfilled, they moved to California where Margie was a homemaker and raised their four sons. After her sons were grown, she supported her husband's ventures as co-owners of a 7-11 store and two New York Pizza stores where her sons also worked at various times. After those ventures she worked as a bookkeeper for 10 years at Stewart Orchids in San Gabriel. She was widowed in 1978 and shortly thereafter she moved to Sun City, Calif. There she also volunteered for the AARP tax program where she did individual taxes as well as serving in the capacity of regional coordinator and director. She was recognized by AARP for 20 years of service in 2004. While in Sun City she renewed a long time friendship with Bonita Boley and they bought a house together. Margie was full of fun and loved spending time with people and she and Bonita became active in the singles group as well as several card groups. She also enjoyed traveling and over the years visited many states and took several cruises. She was a member of the Sun City Methodist Church. Margie was preceded in death by her husband Robert; her brother, John Sadler; and her sister, Mary Lee Penny. She is survived by her four sons, Michael (Sharol), Timothy (Diana), Robert (Jane) and Steven; six grandchildren, Brian, John, Eric, Elizabeth, Patrick and Carrie; and sister, Florence Anderson of Yucaipa, Calif. At her request, disposition was by cremation and on January 25, 2009, which would have been her 88th birthday, her ashes were scattered over the ocean from an airplane flown by her son Tim with sons Robert and Steven as passengers.
