In memory of
Phyllis J. Fickes
Phyllis Fickes, age 83, passed peacefully at home after a lengthy illness. Phyllis was born to Leroy J. Davie and Lavonne Turner Davie on March 28, 1935, in Deposit, N.Y. In 1950, her family moved to Cuba, while her father served in the Navy, and where she graduated from high school. In 1954, she met and married Carl J. Fickes. At that time Carl Fickes was in the Navy, which took them back to Cuba and the Philippines. After being stationed in Oakland, Calif., for three years, Carl retired and moved to Anchorage, Alaska, on Memorial Weekend 1964, right after the earthquake. Phyllis worked for the Civil Service, where she retired from Elmendorf Air Force Base as a GS9 Supply Clerk. She was preceded in death by her father, Leroy J. Davie; mother, Lavonne Turner Davie; and sisters, Barbara Kraft and Jeannie Shore. Phyllis is survived by her sister, Elaine Chapman (Donald); her sons, Jim Fickes (Cathy) and David Fickes (Dorka); and six grandchildren, Jimmie Rhodes (Kamie), Tracy Johnson (Cord), Davina Salsbury (Matthew), Tiffany Fickes, Mark Fickes and Joshua Fickes; she also leaves seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Our mother was loved and will truly be missed.
