Potter, Peter 7/31/1927 - 7/8/2017 Chelsea, Michigan Peter E. Potter, age 89, died Saturday, July 8, 2017, at the Chelsea Retirement Community after suffering a bout of pneumonia. His beloved wife of 51 years, Eugenie, his two sons Mark and Alan, and his daughter-in-law Shirley were at his bedside. Peter was born July 31, 1927, to Ruth and Howard Geisler in Yonkers, New York. After his father died when Peter was a child, his mother remarried and he was raised by George W. Potter. He graduated from the University of Missouri School of Journalism and shortly afterward served in the U.S. Army as a medic during the Korean War. During his career, Peter worked for three newspapers: The Sedalia Democrat, The Ann Arbor News and The Tucson Citizen. While in Tucson he received a Master's degree at the University of Arizona where he also taught journalism. After his retirement Peter moved to Harmony, Pennsylvania, then back to Ann Arbor, Michigan. He spent his later years on a small farm in Manchester Township. He loved auditing college courses and was an avid reader, chess player, wood carver and birder, once serving as president of the Washtenaw Audubon Society. Peter is survived by his wife, Eugenie; his two sons from a previous marriage, Mark and Alan and by his sister, Barbara Randell. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Peter's memory to the Aphasia Community Friendship Center, PO Box 426, Saline, MI, 48176.
