In memory of
Paul Thomas Lyons Sr.
Paul Thomas Lyons, Sr. Marion - Paul Thomas Lyons, Sr. went home to be with his Lord on Monday, May 13, 2019 at Marion General Hospital. Paul, better known as "Smokey" by friends and family, was 86 years old and lived most of his life in Marion. One of 12 children, Paul was born on February 3, 1933 in Tutor Key, Kentucky to the late Andrew and Lydia (Meadows) Lyons. While living in Van Lear, Kentucky, the young Sally G. Perry caught Paul's eye at the Fountain. Shortly after meeting, the two were married in 1954 on Christmas Day in Tutor Key. Together Paul and Sally moved to Marion, Ohio where Paul found a lifelong career working for the Ohio American Water Company as a service man and plant maintenance man. Paul retired in 1995 after 39 years of service. Never meeting a stranger, Paul could talk to anyone and had a contagious smile that could light up any room. Paul was a lifelong baseball fan, and in younger years he enjoyed playing golf with friends. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were his pride and joy. For more than 60 years, Paul was a dedicated member of the Marion First Freewill Baptist Church and formerly served as a Deacon. His faithful dedication was evident by the amount of time he spent at the church. He was the first person willing to help fix anything and was on the roof and under the church countless times. Paul will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his wife, Sally; children, Trina (Bill) Dicks, Brenda (Mike) Edwards, and Paul Thomas (Kim) Lyons, Jr.; grandchildren, Nicole, Kellie, Joshua, Jeremy, Justin, Kenny, Sarah, Andrew, and Katelin; 21 great-grandchildren; siblings, George Lyons, Clarence Lyons, Billy Ray Lyons, and Winnie Hamilton; along with many nieces and nephews and countless friends. Visitation will be held at the Marion First Freewill Baptist Church, 1449 Crissinger Rd, Marion, on Thursday, May 16, 2019 from 5 until 8 pm. A funeral honoring Paul's life will be celebrated 11 am at the church on Friday with Pastor Jerry Copley officiating. Burial will follow in Marion Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to The Learning Spectrum, 3060 Johnstown Utica Road, Johnstown, OH 43031 to benefit Paul's great granddaughter, Emma Edwards. The Learning Spectrum helps children with Autism reach his or her full potential and live a productive, independent life. The family extends sincere gratitude to Kindred Hospice and Ohio Health Hospice for their exceptional care, comfort and compassion during Paul's final days. Snyder Funeral Homes, Denzer Chapel is honored to serve Paul's family. Online condolences may be expressed by visiting www.SnyderFuneralHomes.com .
