In memory of
James Edward Brooks
James Edward Brooks, age 76, was called home by his Savior on Sunday morning, November 24, 2019, after a long battle with Alzheimer's. He was surrounded by his loving family. Jim was born in Tawas on April 9, 1943, the son of the late Claude and Alberta Brooks.
On October 17, 1964, Jim married his high school sweetheart, Carol R. Anschuetz at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Tawas City. They were married 55 years. The Lord blessed them with 3 sons. His strong faith and knowledge of the Lord was passed on to his family: Jeffrey & Robin Brooks of Anchorage, AK, Keith & Angela Brooks of Coleman, MI and James & Sandy Brooks of Las Vegas, NV. God also blessed him with six beautiful grandchildren: Anna & James, Alivia & Jayson, and Brianna & Tyler, one sister Patricia & special brother-in-law, Roger Steffes, his brother-in-law Mike Anschuetz, a sister-in-law Marlene Anschuetz and many special nieces and nephews who all loved their Uncle Jim dearly. He was preceded in death by many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Bill & Arlene Olsen, Cliff & Rose Anschuetz, Clyde & Gayle Anschuetz, George and Gay Lemuel, Jack & Shirley Bowers, Pat Anschuetz, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law Arnold & Augusta Anschuetz.
After high school, Jim went into the Skilled Trades Tool & Die apprenticeship program. Jim worked in the skilled trades at General Motors Powertrain in Bay City for 33 years and was a member of the U.A.W. Local 362. Jim retired in 1998 at the age of 55 to be able to enjoy life with his family & travel to many places-Africa to visit his son, Jeffrey, who was in the Peace Corp., Alaska, Hawaii, Arizona, Las Vegas and Mexico. Jim was an avid hunter and had many happy times traveling with his 3 sons on hunting/fishing trips to several states and Canada.
Jim was a faithful member of Bethel Ev. Lutheran Church for 50 years in Bay City, serving on many different boards, as an elder, usher, trustee, school board and helped the ladies serve many funeral dinners. He was always at Carol's side.
The family will receive friends and family at Penzien-Steele Funeral Home on Friday, November 29, 2019 from 4 to 8 p.m. and at Bethel Ev. Lutheran Church on Saturday, November 30, 2019 from 10 a.m. until the funeral service begins at 11 a.m. Officiating will be Pastor Michael Killinger. Private interment will be at Emanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Tawas City. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may give memorials to Bethel Ev.
