Marvin Wallinga
Marvin Wallinga, age 95, of Sheldon, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at Sanford Senior Care in Sheldon. Funeral Services will be Saturday, April 4, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. at the First Reformed Church in Sheldon. Rev. Paul Van Maarn officiating. Burial to follow at East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon. Visitation will be Saturday, from 12:30 to 1:45 P.M. at the First Reformed Church in Sheldon, prior to services. Marvin Lee Wallinga was born on October 5, 1919 in LeMars, Iowa. He was the son of John Harry and Jennette (Tamminga) Wallinga. He lived his youth in Owens and Sheldon, Iowa, attending school in Owens. He was united in marriage to Verna DenBeste of Archer, Iowa on February 19, 1942 in Sheldon. They farmed and fed cattle in the Archer and Sheldon areas. In 1992, they moved to Sheldon. They lived at the Christian Retirement Home for two years before moving to Sanford Senior Care. Verna passed away on September 3, 2014. Marvin was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sheldon. He enjoyed going to the Sale Barn to watch cattle auctions, having coffee and visiting with friends, playing cards and dominos, fishing with his friend, Joe, and spending time with his grandchildren. Marvin will be remembered as a soft-hearted and gentle person. He passed away on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at Sanford Senior Care in Sheldon. Those left to cherish his memories are 2 sons and 8 grandchildren: Vernon and wife Joyce Wallinga of Sanborn, IA and their children, Michael and Meagan Wallinga, Ethanie and Mike Pulscher, Kent and Melissa Wallinga; Melvin and wife Danielle Wallinga of Springfield, SD and children, Caleb Wallinga, Kaeli Wallinga, Traesa and Brian Richter, Susan and Joel Leusink, Melissa and Paul Wilken; 16 great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law: Elmer Kreykes of Sheldon, IA. He was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Verna Wallinga; his parents; 2 brothers, Harry Wallinga and Richard Wallinga; 3 sisters, Alice Lemkuil Ray, Gracia Mulkins Roy, and June Kreykes.
