Ernest Alonzo Findley Sr.
Ernest Alonzo Findley, Sr., 84 of Viewtown, VA died at home Monday, August 30, 2010. He was born on February 21, 1926 in Elbert, WV a son of the late Nina and John Findley. Ernest is preceded in death by his wife Marjorie Thompson Findley, daughter, Susan Carlene Findley and four brothers; W.P., James, Charles and Denver Findley. Ernest served his country during WWII with the US Navy aboard the U.S.S. Bunkerhill Aircraft Carrier receiving the Presidential Unit Citation and eleven silver stars. He had worked for US Steel for 20 years as a coalminer and mine rescuer. Ernest retired from the CIA as a Logistics Officer. Ernest is survived by his two sons, John Allen Findley of Rixeyville and Ernest “Butch” A. Findley, Jr. of Viewtown, two sisters, Hilda Warner of Manassas Park, VA, Irene Sadak of Fontana, CA and brother Emory Findley of Warrenton, VA, three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. A graveside service will be held on Friday, September 3, 2010 at Stonewall Memory Gardens, Manassas, VA at 11 AM. Memorial contributions may be made to Amissville Volunteer Fire Dept., P.O. Box 147 Amissville, VA 20106 or the Rappahannock Animal Welfare League, P.O. Box 428, Washington, VA 22747.
