Bailey Sr. Edmond
Edmond Bailey, Sr. was born May 11, 1911 in Darlington County, South Carolina, a son of Norman and Bertha Cole Bailey. After 100 years, 10 months and 4 days, Mr. Bailey went home to be with Lord on March 15, 2012. In 1937, he was united in marriage to the former Adia Lide and this loving union was blessed with eight children. Mr. Bailey farmed in the community for many years. He later worked in construction. He was last employed with the Darlington County School District and retired from there in 1976. He had a passion for gardening and working with his hands. He also loved people and he loved the Lord. He was a member of Cherry Grove Baptist and he loved his church and his church family. He enjoyed singing and this was one of his favorite pastimes. Mr. Edmond adored his children and never left them. He always made sure his daughter, Beatrice had pecans. He was a wonderful father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was predeceased by a son, Edmond, Jr., a daughter, Virginia, his siblings, Gladys, Elijah, Maggie Lee, Bertha Lee, Etta Lee, Dosia Bell, Mary Margaret, Ezekiel, Eugene, Edele, Robert and Ethel. Surviving to cherish the memory and continue the legacy of Edmond Bailey, Sr. include his daughter, Louise Sellers of Darlington, SC; his sons, Marion (Mae) Bailey of Hartsville, SC, Gus (Barbara) Bailey of Steelton, PA, James (Patricia) Bailey of Darlington, SC and Elijah Bailey of Washington, DC; 24 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, one great grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and very dear friends.
