BERTHA MATHIS Long Creek – Bertha Pauline Moore Mathis, 83, widow of the late Louie Mathis, Sr., of 161 Spider Valley Road, passed away Monday, October 25, 2010 at Oconee Medical Center. Born in Oconee County to the late Enick and Rosa Richie Moore, she was a former employee of Richland Sports Wear and also was an Apple Farmer. Mrs. Mathis was a member of Long Creek Baptist Church. Survivors include daughter, Dorothy "Marie" Blackwell of Long Creek; brothers Grover Moore of Long Creek and Jason Moore and Toccoa, GA; sister Nora Tench of Walhalla; 5 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, sons James Louie Mathis, Jr., William Emmet Mathis, and Frankie Mathis; brother, Melvin Moore; sister, Ruth Swafford and granddaughter Pauline Marie Mathis preceded her in death. Funeral Services will be held 2 PM, Wednesday, October 27, 2010 from the Chapel of Sandifer Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Long Creek Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM, Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at Sandifer Funeral Home. The family is at the residence. Flowers are accepted.
