Charles Layton Mattmiller passed away Sunday, February 14, 2016. He was born in Gillett, AR on November 29, 1935 to Charles Calvin Mattmiller and Jessie Thelma Muse Mattmiller. He was a member of the Gillett United Methodist Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher and on many board committees. He was a member of the choir which he was very dedicated to. He was the former Mayor of Gillett where he worked many years to improve his community. He retired from the National Park Service with many awards and commendations having been on the National Park Forrest Fire Fighters Crew. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann and his loving children Mark Mattmiller of Eureka Springs, AR, Gayla Hearn (Bill) of Lonoke, AR and Amy Wilson (Jimmy) of DeWitt, AR. His grandchildren, who were the light of his life, Caleb Hearn (Ali) and Leighton and Kaitlyn Wilson and one sister, Virginia Gordon of Gillett along with several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 17th at Gillett United Methodist Church with burial at Gillett Cemetery by Essex Funeral Home, DeWtt. Burial will be at Gillett Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. essexfuneralhome.com
