In memory of
Paul D. LaLonde
Paul D. LaLonde, 76, journeyed onward to his new heavenly home on Thursday, January 14, 2021 surrounded by his loving family at his Avon residence.
Paul was born May 21, 1944 in Lakewood, Ohio. He was a graduate of St. Edward's High School, Lorain County Community College, and the Cleveland Institute of Engineering.
Paul served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and later became a life-long member of V.F. W. Post 7035 in Avon.
Following his military service, Paul returned to his employment as a research and design engineer with Westlake's Donn Products, which later became USG Interiors. During his employment with both of these companies, Paul was awarded 25 commercial patents for his innovative designs of suspended ceiling systems and grid. He retired from USG Interiors in 2008 after 40 years of service.
Paul's creative design skills were also utilized in his woodshop where he built reproduction wood furniture including hand-carved four poster beds, buffets, wall cabinets, tables, bowls, and Windsor chairs.
Paul was a lifelong fisherman and enjoyed fishing locally with the Lorain County Casters and the Lorain Polish Fisherman's Club. His love of fishing included annual trips to Canada, and fishing charters on Lake Erie. In between his fishing outings, Paul hunted and participated in competitive dart leagues, archery tournaments, gun clubs, bowling leagues, and woodturning workshops.
Paul enjoyed traveling all over the globe, working sudoku puzzles, researching woodworking journals, and consuming cartons of Dutch chocolate ice cream.
He was a devout Christian and lovingly supported his wife's leadership as a United Methodist clergywoman in all the churches they served together.
Paul was known for his quirky sense of humor. He binge-watched old episodes of American Pickers, Pawn Stars, and the History Channel. Paul was a good storyteller and a mentor to the numerous young men and women that crossed his path including the Boy Scouts he taught in his ten years as an assistant Boy Scout leader.
He was a kind, gentle, loving husband and father who will be missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Christina LaLonde; his children, Jeff LaLonde of Avon; Meg Coon (Shawn) of Vermilion; one grandchild, Chloe Coon; sisters, Mary Jane LaLonde of Orient, Ohio; Ann Marie (Bruce) Hanson of Ottawa, Kansas; brothers, Bob LaLonde (Ann) of Dateland, Arizona; Dave LaLonde (Mary Jo) of Elkton, Florida; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Marjory LaLonde, and son, Timothy LaLonde.
Due to Covid restrictions, memorial services will be held later this summer. Private internment will be held at North Murray Ridge Cemetery at a later date under the direction of the Avon Busch Funeral Home.
