James Larry Ryder
James Larry Ryder, age 76, longtime resident of Elyria, passed away Saturday, June 16, 2018 following a brief illness. He was born in Erie, Pennsylvania on August 19, 1941.
James served in the US Army and later became a high mill plugger for US Steel in Lorain, where he retired after more than 30 years of employment. He was a longtime member of VFW Post #1079 in Elyria and the Disabled American Veterans Chapter #20 of Lorain. He was an avid Cleveland sports fan, particularly the Browns and Indians, and was a season ticketholder of Indians Baseball games for a time. He also enjoyed mall walking, listening to bluegrass music, traveling to various casinos with his wife, Ina, and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ina (nee Wills); son, Mark Ryder; daughters, Jamie Jonke (Ray), Michelle Ryder (Marla), and Kimberly Langford (Mark); grandchildren, Steven, Courtney, James, Jason, Rayven, Mackenzie, and Blake; step-grandchildren, Amanda and Paul; and 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Jennifer Artman and Cindy Ryder-Paschal; brother, Ronnie Ryder; sisters-in-law, Darlene Ramsey and Peggy Conley; and brother-in-law, Dean Wills.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kayla; brother, Kenny Ramsey; sisters, Joan Morley and Ruthie Jackson; and brother-in-law, Richard Conley.
Friends may Call Wednesday, June 20 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Busch Funeral Home, 114 Second St., Elyria. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, June 21 at 10:00 am. Burial and military honors will follow in Brookdale Cemetery.
