Zwaantje Jansen van Beek November 16, 1928 - February 12, 2017 Zwaantje (ten Berge) Jansen van Beek was born in Westerbork, Holland on November 16, 1928. As a young woman she always loved athletics. She was on the Holland Sport Team being one of the top athletes in hurdles, high jump and long jump. She had a degree from the "Household" school and also in Typing, Shorthand and Stenography. She worked for the "Government House" in her town. During the war her town was the holding spot for the Jews being sent by train to Concentration Camps, she said she would never forget the heart wrenching cries she could hear from families being separated. After the war, Zwaan met her husband Gys. They were married in Sept. 1948, a month later Gys immigrated to the USA. Zwaan joined him at the beginning of 1949. They lived in Utah where their daughter Helen was born. In 1950 they moved to California. Their son Koop was born in 1951. In 1955 they moved to Idaho & in 1956 their daughter Jan was born. Zwaan loved being a wife & mother. She was a great cook and homemaker. She always had such a beautiful flower garden, and enjoyed knitting & needle work. Zwaan was a member of the Soroptimist Club and enjoyed being on a bowling league. She loved the mountains, nature, entertaining, dancing, snowshoeing & ice skating in the winter and swimming in the summer. She also loved her pets. She was always up for an adventure, loved to travel having picnics along the way. If you stopped by in the afternoon she would have a "tea party". She had a way of making you feel special. Zwaan enjoyed participating in the Walk for the Cure & the Senior Olympics, having received numerous medals. Zwaan is preceded in death by her 3 children, Koop van Beek, Helen Feller and Jan Feller, her husband Gys and her one brother & his wife. Zwaan loved being an "Oma" and is survived by her grandchildren, Andrew Feller, Missy Huff (WA) & Tanya Duncan (CA), Son-in-Law Bob Feller, Sister-in-Law Jeltje Jansen van Beek, Brother & Sister-in-Law Evert & Dora Jansen van Beek, 2 Sister-in-Laws in Holland, and numerous Nieces and Nephews both in the USA & Holland. We would like to thank the staff at the Cottages of Boise for their wonderful care of Zwaan these last 3+ years. She loved living there, enjoying all the activities that were offered. Thank you also to First Choice Hospice for the great care that was given these last few weeks. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at Boone Memorial Presbyterian Church, 406 S 14th Ave, Caldwell, ID. Burial will follow at Canyon Hill Cemetery, Caldwell.
