LARSON-CROW, Zilla LaVerne Luce August 19, 1923 - October 7, 2016 Zilla LaVerne Luce Larson-Crow went to be with her Lord Jesus Crhsit on Oct. 7, 2016. She was a sixth generation Texan and a tenth generation descendant of the Mayflower, descending from Edward Doty. LaVerne was the daughter of Grady and Lilla Ellis Luce, both deceased, and was born in Edgewood, Texas on August 19, 1923. She moved to Austin with her parents and brother in the spring of 1936 where she attended the Austin Public Schools and the University of Texas. LaVerne was a member of Christ Lutheran Church. She was also a member and sang for many years with the Damenchor of Austin Saengerrunde, the Balcones Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, William B. Travis Chapter No. 3 of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, The Colonial Dames of America Chapter XXVI, The Colonial Dames of America, the Edward Doty Society, and the Society of the Mayflower Descendants. Through her genealogical research and her numerous albums of photographs and writings, LaVerne assured that her families' future generations would have access to their roots and her memories. LaVerne had written four stories on family history that have been published. LaVerne worked for the State of Texas with positions at Texas Department of Health, the University Interscholastic League, and the Department of Water Resources where she served as an Administrative Technician from which she retired in 1978. At that time she began working for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. in 1979 and completed five years of service. She officially retired in 1984. LaVerne met her first husband, Bernard W. Larson, Sr. in 1943 at the USO during WWII. They were happily married for 65 years and 10 months when Bernie died after a long illness in 2009. LaVerne found a second chance at love when she met and married Oma Clyde Crow, Jr., a U.S. Air Force Veteran of WWII. A wonderful kind man, he was her loving companion and friend. They took loving care of each other their few years together. Survivors include her husband O. Clyde Crow, Jr, one daughter Dr. Cherry Cunningham and son-in-law Rev. Dr. Ronald W. Cunningham of Denison, Texas; sons Bernard W. Larson, Jr. and wife Cynthia of Colente, and Lindsay L. Larson and wife Brenda of Bertram, Texas. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Scott C. Cunningham, Kristin Larson Loken, Carrie Ann Larson, Kristina Larson Bizzell, and Jordan Larson. Four great grandchildren Nathaniel Stiles, Trinity Fros, and Elizabeth Ann Bizzell. And Hudson David Bizzell. LaVerne's brother Arthur "Buck" Luce was deceased in November 2000, and great granddaughter Gracie Lynn Bizzell in 2005. The family requests that memorials in LaVerne's name be made to Christ Lutheran Church, 300 East Monroe St., Austin, Texas 78704, (512) 442-5844 or a charity of one's choice. Visitation will be at Christ Lutheran Church from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. On October 20th. Funeral services will be held at Christ Lutheran Church, 300 East Monroe Street, Austin, Texas 78704 on Thursday October 20th at 11:00 a.m. You can also view LaVerne one hour before the funeral. At 11:00 a.m. the casket will be closed. INterment will follow at Austin Memorial Park.
