Yolanda V. Otero
Mrs. Yolanda Otero, age 92, passed away Monday, April 17, 2017 in San Antonio. She was born on June 24, 1924 in Monterrey, Mexico to Cecilio Vela and Maria Hinojosa.
Mrs. Otero received a CPA degree from Colegio Zaragoza, where she was one of three women in her class of 18. She married Dr. Pedro Jaime Otero June 26, 1948, who preceded her in death February 2013.
Mrs. Otero was a member of the Pan American Club. She would make empanadas and sold them for $0.25 for benefits at St. Jude's Church. She was the "room mother" for all three of her children throughout their schooling. Mrs. Otero helped the underserved and the poor with food and raised money for various different Christian organizations. She was a wonderful hostess and people loved her generous food and warm hospitality. Mrs. Otero was preceded in death by her parents; husband and brother, Gerardo Vela.
She is survived by her daughter, Sonia Cavazos; sons, Dr. Richard Otero (Dana) and Peter J. Oter, Jr.; three grandchildren, David Cavazos, Christina Ketabchi (Evan) and Maranelle Otero; three sisters, Cuqi, Felita and Socorrito; great-grandson, Henry Ketabchi; three great-grandchildren of Saltillo, Mexico and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Dr. Harry Hernandez and all of Mrs. Otero's caregiver's: Maria Godinez, Alma Sanchez and many others.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 beginning at 6:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Porter Loring North Chapel.
Service will be Thursday, April 20, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Porter Loring North Chapel.
Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery Mausoleum.
