In memory of
William F. "Bill" Tufts
William "Bill" F. Tufts Sr., 85, of Troy, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 13, 2016 at his residence. Bill was born on Oct. 11, 1931, in Brooklyn, N. Y., the child of John Warren and Arla Mildred Tufts. When he was 12 years old his parents passed away, and he and his brothers were placed in an orphanage. When he was 16, he left the orphanage and found a job through a paid employment agency. From his wages he earned they paid for his room at the boarding house. Even though Bill was dealt such a rough hand in his life, he never let that quell his beautiful soul. At the young age of 17, Bill enlisted in the United States Air Force. In 1957, he married the love of his life, Pauline Hudson in St. Louis. For 30 years he worked on the auto assembly line at General Motors in St. Louis. Upon retirement he and Pauline moved from Spanish Lake to Lincoln County. Bill was a man of many talents, including writing poetry, short stories, and songs. Most notably though he wrote his own line of humorous books titled "Behind the Fence", which was based on two small characters that told jokes, behind a picket fence. He typed and illustrated each of the books by hand, and has handed out thousands of them. Bill enjoyed making people smile and laugh and gave them out at hospitals, restaurants, stores, anywhere there were people. When he was not writing he enjoyed being outdoors spending time fishing, or golfing. His greatest joy in life was to provide for his family, and spread the love that was present in his heart. Bill truly made this earth a better, kinder place to live and his absence will be felt by so many. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Moscow Mills for over 28 years. Bill's faith was important to him and he believed that every person held value, that each person was important in their own way. His life's mission was to bring happiness to other's. Bill was one of a kind and will be missed and loved forever by his devoted family. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Pauline Tufts of Troy; four children Teresa Ringling, Martin Tufts, Robin and husband, Douglas Holtman; grandchildren Shannon, William III and his wife, Traci, Zachary, Bethany, Kathryn, Matthew, Joseph, Grace, Nicholas, and 16 great-grandchildren, as well as many other relatives and friends. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his son, William Tufts Jr. and his son-in-law, Harry J. Ringling III.
