In memory of
WILLIAM (BILL) SYCKS
WILLIAM (BILL) SYCKS William D. Sycks passed away on Friday, April 7, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family. Bill was born on July 27, 1941 to Evelyn Barnes Sycks and William James Sycks in Millfield, OH. He was the oldest of 8 siblings: Don, Richard, Sharon Canter, Linda King, Debbie Krotel, Carol and Diana Mayles. Bill graduated from Chauncey Dover High School in 1959 and joined the U.S. Air Force a year later. He was sent to Georgetown University to learn German and was subsequently stationed overseas with the Air Force until November 1964. After his service overseas, he returned to Athens, Ohio and enrolled in Ohio University where he completed his undergraduate degree in 1968. In August 1968, Bill was offered a scholarship to attend Indiana University where he completed his master's degree. Bill went to work as a civil engineer with the City of Bloomington where he worked for 27 years until his retirement. Bill and Barb met in 1985 in Bloomington and were married May 3, 1989 on the riverboat Natchez in New Orleans, LA. They lived happily in Bloomington until 2013 when they moved to Green Valley, AZ to enjoy the warmth and sunshine and escape the cold and snow of the Midwest. Bill was preceded in death by both parents William and Evelyn Sycks, his sister Carol Sycks, his nephew Mark Sycks, and his brother Richard Sycks. He is survived by his wife Barbara, his first wife, Ria Collee, his children Nikki Yeakel (Mike), Rebecca Deaton (David), Kim Underwood (Doug) and Jeff Winters (Kelly), his 8 grandchildren Karissa Fleetwood (Garrett), Mark and Em Underwood, Logan and Kylie Yeakel, Will, David and Jacob Deaton, and his 2 great-grandchildren Rydleigh and Deacon Fleetwood. The family will hold a Celebration of Life in Bloomington, Indiana sometime in May and one for all of our Green Valley friends sometime in the fall.
