William Loveman Roskind January 3, 1932 - October 9, 2016 Asheville, NC - William Loveman Roskind, 84 years young, left this earth, passing away peacefully on October 9 after suffering a massive stroke on Tuesday October 4, 2016. Bill was truly a Renaissance man, a Man for All Seasons. His brilliant and enduring spirit will be with us forever. He will forever be loved and kept in the hearts of his beloved wife of 27 years Carole, his adult children, Michael, Valerie, Jason and Louis and his adorable, brilliant, accomplished grandchildren and great grandchildren and Carole's wife-in-law, Sandi. Having attained the title of Lt. Colonel in the U.S. Air Force, he completed his military service in concert with his civilian career. Having earned a doctorate at Wayne State University in Industrial Organizational Psychology Bill had a distinguished career of 28 years at Detroit Edison in Detroit, Michigan as a Director of Human Resources and Testing. The couple retired to Asheville in 1999, and have loved every minute of their lives here in the mountains. Bill served as president of the Asheville Symphony Guild, 2002-2003 and on the Symphony Board of Directors immediately after. Bill's many friends will cherish him and carry on his legacy to generously support the Asheville Symphony, the Asheville Symphony Guild and the Astronomy Club of Asheville. He taught photography, astronomy, and psychology at the UNC-A College for Seniors for at least 12 years, planned music-oriented trips to Nashville, Toronto, Pittsburgh, New York and other major cities and in recent years was active in politics and activities to encourage voting. According to Jewish law, he was buried on October 10th. His burial took place in the Hebrew National Cemetery, in Clinton Township, Michigan, surrounded by friends and family. A celebration of Bill's life is being planned to take place within the next three weeks in Asheville. There will be music.
