William L. Martin
SURRY - Billy Martin, 52, of Surry was called home October 9, 2016, joining his father, William L. Martin Sr., grandparents, "Grumpa" Luke and Hazel Martin, and loyal companions, Ben and Bo. Billy graduated from Bethel High School in 1982, he was a machinist at Newport News Shipbuilding, he enjoyed time as a Mate, Charter fishing in Oregon Inlet. In 2001 he achieved his USCG 100 Ton Master Captain License, and was a volunteer firefighter with Surry County. Billy owned and operated W. L. Martin Contracting and was committed to making your dream home a reality. As an avid lover of the outdoors, Billy enjoyed all aspects of God's creation. He was often found snow skiing or white water rafting with friends. He had a passion for fishing and a love of the water. Billy was a skilled hunter and a longtime member of Moonlight Hunt Club. Billy's outgoing personality made him well known throughout Hampton, Surry County and the Outer Banks. Billy is survived by his daughter, Hayley Jo (Darin Barrack); her mother, Denise Boyd; grandson, Colton Barrack "Buckshot"; Aunt Francis and Uncle Charlie Partin; many devoted cousins; his faithful companion, Bug; cherished friends, John Bishop, Nick Cortellesi, Donny Creech, Doug Heaton, Gary Irving, Jay Kiser, Terry Mitchem, Arthur Paris, and too many others to name. A Celebration of Billy's life will be held at 6 PM, Saturday, October 22, 2016 at W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home, 210 Harpersville Rd, Newport News. Casual attire is requested. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Billy's grandson's, Colton James Barrack "Buckshot", educational savings account at Langley Federal Credit Union.
