Long time Alaska resident Chris Kalbach, age 50, passed away peacefully at home in Eagle River, Alaska, on Oct. 7, 2016, with family by his side. Chris is survived by his parents, Bill and Ginny (Heiser) Kalbach of Eagle River, Alaska, and Haddon Heights, N.J.; son, PFC William Paul Kalbach II; and sister, Tricia (Kalbach) Mills; also by brother-in-law, Mike; and nieces, Casey and Julie Mills, all of Eagle River. A 1983 graduate of Chugiak High School, Chris worked in the healthcare field for many years, most recently as Health Technician/IT Specialist with Orion Behavioral Health Network in Eagle River and previously at North Star Behavioral Hospital in Anchorage, Alaska. Chris was a wealth of information on a variety of subjects. His never-ending love of reading and thirst for knowledge made him the "go to" person for answers, and he was especially patient and helpful in resolving IT problems. Chris was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy, Persian Gulf War, Operation Desert Shield, participating in the Liberation of Kuwait. While living on Adak Island in the Aleutians, Chris acquired a love of photography and the outdoors. He found great pleasure in sharing his love of camping, boating and hiking with his son. Chris' proudest accomplishment was raising his son, Will (aka Paul), as a single parent. He will be dearly missed by family and friends.
