William C. Holzapfel WWII Army veteran, career insurance underwriter William C. Holzapfel, 94, of Clark, N.J., entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the funeral service at Walter Johnson Funeral Home, 803 Raritan Rd., Clark, on Tuesday, Feb. 21, at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains, N.J. He was a staff sergeant in the Army during World War II for five years, serving as a medic in Europe for three years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 328 of Clark. Mr. Holzapfel was an insurance underwriter for various insurance companies on Wall Street for 40 years, retiring from St. Paul Insurance Company in 1985. Mr. Holzapfel was the beloved husband for 72 years of Josephine "Jo" (Thurgood) Holzapfel. He was the devoted father of Alan Holzapfel and his wife, Sally, Glenn Holzapfel and his wife, Mindy, the late Eric Holzapfel and daughter-in-law, Carol Holzapfel. He was the cherished grandfather, of Scott, Jennifer, Tyler and Matthew, and great-grandfather of Samantha, Jake, Emma and Erica.
