William Harris Haak, Ph.D Okemos November 29, 1936-April 10, 2017 Bill Haak passed recently in Lansing surrounded by family. Bill was generous and devoted to his wife, children, and grandchildren. He spent most of his working years as a school administrator at Pattengill Junior High School in Lansing, Pinckney High School and Central Office, and as Headmaster at Chicago Junior School. Since his retirement in 2002, he lived in Okemos. Bill is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary Eva (Harkey) Haak; children, David (Julie Mann) Haak of Lansing, Karen (Bill) Wheeler of Pinckney, Kristi (Mike) Heath of DeWitt, and Tom (Debbie Gotchef) Haak of Seattle. Bill and Eva have eight grandchildren and nine step-grandchildren. Bill is also survived by his sister, Betty (Walt) Haskins of Big Rapids. Bill graduated from Owosso High School in 1954 where he played basketball and tennis and was senior class president. He has four degrees from Michigan State University where he played one year of basketball and was in the Army ROTC. Bill was a Captain and Airborne Ranger in the Army. He and Eva met while he was stationed at Fort Jackson, SC. Along with Eva, he was a member of several Christian Science Branch Churches, including the East Lansing Church. Bill had a wonderful Sunday school teacher in Owosso who told him to "Love God and serve your fellow man." That is how he lived. There will be a memorial on Friday, April 21 at 2pm at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, East Chapel, 1730 E. Grand River Ave., East Lansing, with a visitation one hour prior and a reception to follow.
