William R. "Bill" Dykes
Georgetown - William R. "Bill" Dykes, Sr. passed away quietly on Sunday, Feb. 12, 2017 at home surrounded by his wife and children. Bill started his journey through life in 1928, in Bronson, Fla. He joined the Army in 1950 serving as a tank driver in 247th regiment. While working in Gainesville, Florida, he met the love of his life Roxie and was married in 1957. They had five children and finally settled in Wilmington. After retiring from DuPont, Bill and Roxie bought an RV and traveled for a few years. In 1993 they moved to Georgetown and were active members in the Church of Christ. He is survived by his wife, Roxie; his children, Bill Jr., Bob, Judy and Quin; his grandchildren; and great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Sunday, Feb. 19, 2017 at 2:30 pm in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown, where friends may call after 1:30 pm. There will be a private cemetery service on Thursday, Feb. 23, 2017.
