Willard Raymond Moulton
Willard Raymond Moulton, 91 GORHAM - Willard Raymond Moulton, 91, resident of Sebago Lake and Gorham House, Gorham died Sunday, Oct. 9, 2016 from complications of dementia. The eldest and last surviving child and only son of Simon and Rachel (Strout) Moulton; he was born April 20, 1925 and raised in Sebago Lake Village, where his family had lived for generations. He graduated from Standish High School in 1941. During the war, he served in the army in the Saar-Moselle triangle stringing communication wires, earning a Bronze Star. At the University of Maine, Orono, he received a bachelor's degree in Engineering Physics in 1948 and an MBA in 1950. He was a member of the Phi Mu Delta fraternity and president of the Class of 1948. At the university, he met his wife of 63 years, Pauline Wadsworth (True) Moulton, marrying in Hope on June 27, 1948. They settled in Sebago Lake, built a house, and raised four children. He was a life insurance underwriter, specializing in disability insurance, became second vice-president at Union Mutual Life Insurance Company, and later worked for the New England Life Insurance Company. He owned and ran Moulton's Orchard. Having a lifelong interest and concern for his community, he was politically active, working particularly hard for issues related to education. He ran several successful political campaigns and served on the S.A.D.#6 school board for many years. He was also a Mason, a member of the Sebago Lake Congregational Church, and president of the Standish Kiwanis Club. He continued his own education by studying economics. His love of the outdoors resulted in many trips with family and friends involving birdwatching, hiking, canoeing, skiing, and biking and in his enjoying woods work and gardening. He is survived by his children Gregory and wife Erica (Orlow) Moulton of Wakefield, Mass., Christine DeNier and husband James of Durango, Colo., Andrew and husband Theodore Kwan of Brookline, Mass., and Peter and wife Susan Cottle of South China; and four grandchildren, Rachel and Heather Moulton, Eric and Peter Dunn. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday morning, Oct. 29 at the Sebago Lake Congregational Church, 410 Northeast Road (Route 35), Sebago Lake Village, with reception to follow.
