Dr. Willard John Ingram
Dr. Willard John Ingram AGE: 73 • Somerset Dr. Willard John Ingram passed away Saturday October 15th, 2016 at St. Peters University Medical Center in New Brunswick. He was 73 years old. Born in Los Angeles, CA to George and Lucille (Morrow) Ingram, he'd been a Somerset resident for the past 11 years. A graduate of Emmanuel Arts High School, he received his Baccalaureate from U.C.L.A. in 1965, and his medical degree from Howard Medical School in 1969. From 1969 to 1974, Dr. Ingram was an intern and resident in general surgery at Harlem Hospital and Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York. Early in his 41 year career as a general surgeon, Dr. Ingram practiced bariatric surgery and established the first hyperalimentation program in New Jersey. From 1975 to 1990, he worked in private practice in New Brunswick, and for the past ten years was a bedside wound care specialist in long term care facilities and in the homes of his patients. He had a beautiful singing voice, and would share his gift with his patients by singing while he treated them. He loved animals, photography, and college football and baseball, but most of all he cherished time spent with his family and his cat, Heidi. Dr. Ingram was predeceased by his parents, and by his uncles Willard and Edward Morrow. He is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Karen (McKenzie) Ingram; by their children, Kyle McKenzie Ingram of Hong Kong and Leigh Meredith Ingram of New York City; and by his cousin, Gwen Fraction of Minnesota. Visitation will be held from 9 to 10 am Saturday October 22nd at the First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens 771 Somerset Street, Somerset, NJ, with the funeral service to follow. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Somerset. Arrangements entrusted to Gleason Funeral Home.
