It is with deep sadness that the sons of Whitney B. Lathrop announce her death on Tuesday April 11, 2017. Passing away peacefully at home with her kitty at her side. Whitney was born in New London, Connecticut on October 2, 1939 to Frank Gaylord Baldwin, Jr. and Nancy Smith Baldwin. She grew up on Hickory Hill Farm in East Haddam, Connecticut. It was in this beautiful, rural setting that her life long love for animals begin. Surrounded by chickens, pigs, dogs, cats and of course, horses. Whitney graduated from Fox Hollow school in Lenox Massachusetts and received her AA degree from Marjorie Webster junior college in Washington D.C. and then attended American University. She completed her degree with honors in therapeutic recreation at the University in northern Colorado. Whitney married Robert W. Lathrop in 1962 in Old Lyme, Connecticut and then moved to Boulder, Colorado where Rob attended the University of Colorado. Whitney and Rob divorced in 1983, but remained great friends. Whitney was a gifted athlete in a number of sports. She was a horsewoman a tennis player and skier and loved all outdoor activities. Never without horses in the stables and corrals that she built. She taught skiing at Lake Eldora and volunteered with their handicap program for several years. Most of all she loved her family and animals. Preceded in death by her brother, Peter Baldwin (Patty). Whitney is survived by her two sons, Peter (Kathy) of Missoula, MT and Cole of Firestone, Colorado. Survivors include her grandchildren, Bailey, Molly, Melanie and Maya. Survivors also include her beloved sister, Nancy Manville; nieces and nephews David, Jennifer, Andrea Tiffany and Hiram Manville. The memorial service will be held in Lyme, Ct. This summer. Memorial donations may be made to Colorado Therapeutic Riding Center, Longmont, CO.
