SHAKESPEARE Wayne Gilbert Shakespeare, 92, of Independence, Missouri passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at The Groves. A celebration of life service will be Monday, February 6th at 7:00pm in the Community Room at The Groves, 1515 W White Oak St, Independence, Missouri. Wayne was born November 28, 1924, in Decatur County, near Lamoni, Iowa, to Harry and Leta (Stemm)Shakespeare. Wayne graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1942. He was called to serve in the U.S. Army Air Force in March of 1943. After returning home from service, he met and married Thelma Louise (Coon) Shakespeare on January 17, 1947. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Thelma Louise (Coon) Shakespeare, son, David Wayne Shakespeare, and sister Carolyn (Shakespeare) VanNoy. Wayne is survived by his daughter Cheryl Lynne (Cheri) Testerman and her husband Gary, 4 grandchildren, 9 great- grandchildren, two brothers, Eldon Shakespeare and Charles Shakespeare, nieces, nephews and many friends. Wayne worked at the Standard Oil Refinery in Sugar Creek, MO for over 40 years retiring in 1982. He was an Elder in Community of Christ and active in the life of the East Alton congregation, where he and Thelma attended for many years before moving to The Groves in 2012. Wayne was active in Boy Scouts of America with his son, David, and a member of the Independence Kiwanis club. Two of his favorite hobbies were collecting stamps and completing needlepoint projects.
