In memory of
Wayne Albert Schapper
Wayne Albert Schapper Mar. 20, 1940 - Feb. 5, 2017 Salinas Wayne Albert Schapper, aged 76, passed away peacefully February 5, 2017 of heart issues related to Agent Orange. He enjoyed life up to the last minute. We were all very lucky to have him in our lives, a great gentleman, loving husband, father and grandfather. Wayne married his sweetheart, Mary Primrose, a registered nurse, when stationed in Nebraska. He called her his bride for the 51 years of their marriage. They have two daughters, Maura and Carolyn, who never knew a moment of doubt that being strong females was absolutely normal and feminine. He was a great role model for and very proud of his grandson, Maxwell, son of Maura. Wayne is also survived by his brother Robert (Linda) Schapper of Albany, Oregon, and sister, Christine (Bruce) Marshall, of Seattle, Washington and their families. He is preceded in passing by his mother, Marie Haake Schapper and his father, Walter Schapper. Wayne has touched many lives in positive ways. He was a man of service: He served our country as a member of the Air Force, went to the Police Academy after retiring and joined the Salinas Police Department as a civilian. He was a Salinas Police Department's Reserve Officer, often working community events. He tirelessly supported local politics and served on numerous committees. He served as an officer in the Military Officers Association of America. Wayne was also a very fine gentleman, who was supportive of the independent women in his life, understanding and kind to the people he supervised, and generous with his humor and wit with family and friends. He was intelligent, and a member of Mensa. Wayne loved old cars, trains and history. He was proud to be a PIG with Pride, Integrity and Guts. A favorite saying of his was "Everything cometh to he who waits, so long as he workith like hell while he waits"-unknown. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Joseph's Church, 1 Railroad Ave. Spreckels, CA. 93962 on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at 11:00am followed by a luncheon in the parish hall. Please bring any photos of Wayne that you would like to include in a memory book.
