Wayne Barden
Wayne A. Barden Wayne A. Barden, age 91, of Topeka, Kansas, formerly of Elkhart, passed away on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at Aldersgate Village, Topeka, KS. He was born March 7, 1926 to George A. and Hazel (Blair) Barden in Walkerton, Indiana. After graduating from high school, Wayne served his county honorably in the United States Navy. He went on to obtain his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University. On March 17, 1951 Wayne married Patricia Pherson in South Bend. She preceded him in death on May 25, 2015. Wayne and Patricia moved to Topeka, Kansas in 2010 to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Wayne worked for CTS Corporation where he invented many different products and owned the patent to his inventions. Wayne had a lifelong love of sailing and sailboat racing. He loved spending summer weekends sailing on Lake Michigan with family & friends as well as some wonderful sailing adventures in the Caribbean. Wayne used his knowledge of sailing and taught classes on the art, as well as classes in Navigation with the U.S. Power Squadron. In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Patricia; his son, Brad Barden in 2010; and five siblings, Bonnie Deraneck, Iva Mae Harney, Margaret Wood, Robert Barden, and George Barden. Wayne is survived by his daughter, Samantha (Brian) Duffens of Topeka, KS; two grandchildren, Gabrielle Duffens and Connor Duffens; many nieces and nephews; and his sister, Norma Donzero of Sun City West, AZ. There will be a Celebration of Life at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola, IN 46561 at a later date.
