EL DORADO-Barber, Dr. Warren D. Dr. Warren David Barber, age 95, retired El Dorado Dentist, died Saturday, April 15, 2017, at Comfort Care Homes Founder's Crest facility in Wichita. He was born October 18, 1921, to Arley and Blanche (David) Barber in Copan, OK. Arley was an oil gauger and moved his family first to Bloomington, KS, and then to El Dorado in 1929. Warren graduated from El Dorado High in 1939 and enlisted in the US Navy in 1943, serving as a Pharmacist Mate on the USS Jason in the Pacific Theater. He was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church in El Dorado where on August 14, 1946 he married the love of his life Margaret Camp. They were devoted to each other for 68 years until her death in 2014. Warren attended El Dorado Junior College and Wichita University before graduating from the University of Kansas City (UMKC) Dental School in 1954 and returning to El Dorado. He was an active member of Kiwanis, the American Legion, and the past President of the Kansas Dental Association. He loved to hunt and fish as well as boat on the local lakes until his retirement in 1985. At that time, he and Margaret bought a camper and hit the road visiting the 48 contiguous states, many multiple times. In retirement, he was also an accomplished woodworker, crafting built in cabinets and bookcases for their home as well as many clocks that he gave away to all of his and Margaret's doctors, cherished friends and family members. In addition to Margaret and his parents, Warren is preceded in death by a son, Brent, and a sister, Arlena Overholser. Survivors include his daughter, Becky (Ted) White of El Dorado; son, Barry (Susan) Barber of Chesterfield, MO; 8 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; sister, Lacey Reneau of Wichita; brother, Dr. Jim (Junia) Barber of Augusta; and numerous nieces and nephews.
