Walter H. Wohlers
Services for Walter H. Wohlers will be at 10AM Saturday February 18 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Banning, CA. He died from a major stroke on December 29, 2016 at Loma Linda Hospital. Weaver Mortuary in Beaumont is handling arrangements. Mr. Wohlers was born January 7, 1923 on a farm near Sterling, Nebraska. He has lived at Sun Lakes Country Club since 1987. He and his late wife, Donna, were the first ones to move to Sun Lakes in August 1987. Walt, as he was known by family and friends, served as a B-29 pilot and flight engineer during WW2. He attended Wesleyan University and graduated from University of Nebraska, remaining a loyal Huskers fan to the end! He holds two Masters degree in school administration and math. He spent 43 years in secondary education as a math teacher, football coach and school administrator. His last 30 years were spent at Eisenhower High School, Rialto, CA. His first position was at Wilber, NE in 1947. He retired from education in 1990. Mr. Wohlers was a life member of the National Education Association and a member of the California Retired Teachers Association. He enjoyed playing golf with friends at Sun Lakes and entertaining as a standup comedian. He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Donna Meyer Wohlers, and four brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife Lori Lai, daughter, Suzan Iverson of Capistrano Beach, CA, son, Robert Wohlers of Gridley, CA, three grandchildren, Michelle Hausz, Chris Wohlers, and Alana Wohlers, two great-grandchildren, Morgan and Cameron Hausz and twelve nieces and nephews. He will be interned at the Riverside, CA Veterans Memorial Cemetery. The family suggests, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Our Saviors Lutheran Church, 1320 W. Williams, Banning, CA 92220 where he was a member.
