GARDEN CITY BEACH – Walter Carrol Holshouser, 79, of Garden City Beach died Saturday, Oct. 8, 2016, due to complications of dementia and recent heart surgery. Carrol is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jane Nettles Holshouser; a daughter, Sarah Marie "Sam" Cox (Bryan) of Murrells Inlet; a son, Gregg Holshouser (Terri) of Garden City Beach; a sister, Ann Owen of Huntersville, N.C.; and a granddaughter, Olivia Cox of Murrells Inlet. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Timothy Carrol "T.C." Cox. Born Feb. 19, 1937, in Statesville, N.C., Carrol was the son of the late J.W. and Minnie Holshouser. He was a 1955 graduate of Statesville High School, a 1959 graduate of the University of South Carolina and an avid fan of his Gamecocks. Carrol was well known in the Myrtle Beach area as the founder of his family's business, Custom Outdoor Furniture & Restrapping, which was established in 1979 in Garden City. He built the business the old-fashioned way, visiting his customers in person and through plain old hard work. He was active in the Myrtle Beach Area Hospitality Association, and was named Hospitality Services Member of the Year in 2010. He was also known as "Capt. Carrol," and operated charter-fishing boats out of the old Gulf Stream, Inlet Port and Voyagers View marinas in Murrells Inlet. He specialized in trolling for king and Spanish mackerel. The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel. Funeral services were 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, at Belin Memorial United Methodist Church in Murrells Inlet.
