Walter Adam Boyd, 69, passed away at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center on Sunday, Oct. 9, 2016. Born on June 19, 1947 at Rowan Memorial Hospital, Walter was the son of the late Millard Boyd Sr. and Margaret Love Boyd. He graduated from J.C. Price High School in 1965 and immediately entered the United States Air Force. During his career in the USAF, Walter attended Riverside Community College in Riverside, Calif. where he graduated with a degree in technical engineering. After serving 20 years in the service, he retired as a Technical Sargent (TSGT) in the field of air traffic control. Walter was an expert in martial arts and while stationed in Germany he united with The Twelfth District of Free Mason and earned the title of Master Mason. In addition to his parents, Walter was preceded in death by his only brother Millard Boyd, Jr and a nephew Michael Boyd. He leaves a legacy of love in his children, grandchildren, great grandsons, nieces and nephews. They are daughters, Sonya Boyd-Belton of Spencer and Savannah Boyd McGorda (Edward Sr.) of Salisbury and their mother Doris B. Brown; six grandsons, Jarrell Boyd(Charisse) of Clifton Park, N.Y.,; Jaquan Boyd and Trustan Belton of Spencer; Edward Jr. (E.J.) McGorda of Greensboro; and Emarion and Evian McGorda of Salisbury; and one granddaughter, Honor Belton of Spencer. His great-grandsons are Myxaylon and Caius Boyd of Clifton Park, N.Y.; and a special niece, Sharon Boyd Bates (George) of Salisbury. His nephews are Millard Ray White (Claudette) of Lexington and Jeffery and Adam (Tenecia) Boyd of Atlanta, Ga.; and a host of cousins and friends. Service and Visitation: A private memorial with military rights will be held at The National Cemetery on Monday, Oct. 17, 2016. The family will be receiving friends at the home of the McGordas at 135 Oleary, Salisbury, NC. Noble and Kelsey Funeral Services is assisting the Boyd family.
