July 7, 1921 - Feb. 15, 2017 Vivian Teague McCollum, 95, passed from this life into eternal communion with the Lord on February 15, 2017. She is deeply loved and will be dearly missed. Vivian is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Newton and her husband, Paul, of Florence; two grandchildren, Leslie Newton Dobbs (Shane) of Birmingham and Andy Newton of Washington, DC; and two great-grandchildren, John and Jack Dobbs. She was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy McCollum, and her parents, James and Mary Cashion Teague of New Market. Vivian was a lifelong member of Union Grove Church of Christ. She loved her daily trips to the New Market Senior Center where she renewed old friendships and established new ones. Vivian was a retired schoolteacher in Madison County Public Schools, and she lived in the same house in New Market for 91 years, teaching her grandchildren to count and play cards in the same home where studied as a child during the Great Depression and watched the moon landing with friends from church. The visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 on February 17 at Valhalla Funeral Home on Winchester Road, Huntsville; the service will immediately follow at 2:00, and the internment will be at Locust Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The Memorial Service will be led by Bill Phillips and Andy Newton. Pallbearers will be Buddy Crab, Shane Dobbs, Monroe Jones, David Key, Terrell McCollum, Benny Moore, Andy Newton, and Dennis Strickland. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the New Market Volunteer Fire Department, the New Market Senior Center, or Union Grove Church of Christ.
