VIVIAN L. KENNEDY
Vivian L. (Vickie) Kennedy age 66, of Costa Mesa, CA, passed away Sunday April 2, 2017, at Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach California, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born July 25, 1950 in Nevada, Missouri, to Paul C. Hofheins and Mildred L. Neumann. She was a 1968 graduate from Southeast High School in Kansas City, Missouri. She married Bill Kennedy on March 29, 1969 in Independence Missouri, at the Noland Road Baptist Church. Vivian worked at several jobs during her life, many which were related to education. She worked at Blue Ridge School in Raytown, Missouri, Fort Osage School District in Independence Missouri, Graceland College School of Nursing in Independence Missouri, and the Kansas City School District. She also worked at Sears and Hallmark Cards in Kansas City, before working in education. Vivian retired from the Kansas City School District in 2005, as the receptionist to the Superintendent of the district. She also spent time working at the Buckner Missouri Senior Center after retirement, where she lifted everyone's spirits with her helping and caring ways. She truly enjoyed life and always had a positive attitude, and an infectious smile, that made anyone she met feel better about their day. Her bright smile, pleasing personality, and true concern for others well-being, will be missed by everyone she came in contact with. It was always said, she never met a stranger. She loved being around children, which was apparent by the big smile they always brought to her face. She always tried to direct the children she was around to follow the right path in life, and had a lasting effect on many. Several children made contact with her later, as they became adults, and thanked her for her caring about their future. She loved window shopping, and collecting antiques and unique items that she would find, in her many trips to swap meets and thrift stores. Vivian loved to visit the beach near her home and wile away the time, just watching the ocean, which always gave her a sense of peace and relaxation. One of her greatest pleasures was living in Orange County California, with its always sunny and mild weather. She loved the idea of no freezing, or blazing hot temperatures, and never wanted to see snow again. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Bill Kennedy, her daughter Kerigan Anne Kennedy, two grandchildren Chase K. Slocum and Kali A. Kennedy, brothers Raymond Hofheins and Jim Hofheins, sisters Margaret Fox and Debbie Hofheins, many nieces and nephews and friends. Vivian was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother Steve Hofheins.
