Virginia H. McKenzie
Virginia H. McKenzie, 91 of Tucson, Arizona, formerly of Romeo, Michigan, passed away Sunday, Oct. 9 at Oro Valley Hospital in Tucson. Virginia was born in Bay Port on Feb. 26, 1925, and was the daughter of Melvin and Leona Dutcher. On Jan. 31, 1948, she married Duncan McKenzie, Jr. of Bad Axe. He preceded her in death in 1996. She was a 1943 graduate of Bay Port High School and obtained an registered nurse in 1946 from Mercy College. Virginia worked for 40 years as an registered nurse taking on many nursing roles in a number of hospitals in Michigan. She was known for her caring ways by her patients. Having been an athlete most of her life, Virginia was highly involved in her children's athletics. She was also very active and talented in golf, dancing and aerobics her whole life. Virginia also was highly involved in politics. She had a big heart and was a great caregiver to family members and friends as needed even in her 90s. Virginia is survived by her daughter, Barbara K. McKenzie of Tucson, Arizona; son, Duncan M. (Margaret) McKenzie of Biloxi, Mississippi; brothers, Melvin Pete (Edna) Dutcher of Caseville, James (Shirley) Dutcher of Clinton Township; sister-in-law, Nellie Dutcher of Bay Port; granddaughters, Kelly (Bobby) McElmurry of Houston, Texas and Jamie (Michael Sawyer) McKenzie of Gulfport, Mississippi and great-grandson, William Duncan Sawyer of Gulfport, Mississippi. Interment and a celebration of life service will take place at a later date in Michigan. Memorials may be made in Virginia's name to a veterans organization of your choice.
