Virginia Parker Payne
Jan 15, 1911- Oct 14, 2016 Virginia Parker Payne, 105 years old, died October 14, 2016. Virginia was born January 15, 1911 in Driver, Virginia to Maggie Hinton and William Henry Parker. She received a degree from Harrisonburg Teacher's College. Virginia taught first grade for several years until she and her husband, Charles H. Payne, transferred to Birmingham in 1940 with State Farm Insurance Company. Virginia was a member of Valley Christian Church, PEO Chapter B, which honored her with a scholarship in her name and The Eleanor Hord Club. Virginia was an inspiration to her family and many friends. She was known for her warmth, caring spirit and her green thumb. She loved to knit and many have benefited from her afghans. Virginia enjoyed hosting and entertaining family and friends. She was a caring and generous person who was loved and will be missed by many. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Charlie Payne, daughter Sarah Jane Horton and sons Charles and Ed Payne, sisters Belle Wilroy and Margaret Daniels, brothers John, Will and Ben Parker. She is survived by her daughter, Peggy Sington, grandchildren Nancy Sington Burton (Rob), Lenny Sington, Cindy Sington Daily (Jay), Dee Sington, Lindsay Payne Kuehner (Case), Elizabeth Payne Maddox (Warren), 13 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. Visitation will be Tuesday, October 18th at 1:00, Valley Christian Church, 2600 Cherokee Place, Birmingham, Alabama 35216. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 with Rev. Gary Edge officiating. Memorials may be made to Valley Christian Church.
